i lost an entire flash drive worth of photos and videos last summer. the footage was from our family vacation to china in june 2009, camp crossroads in august 2009, and other pictures from that summer. i had posted most of them on facebook, but some, i felt, were either too personal, wouldn't make sense to anybody else, or were too terrible of pictures of me (but fine otherwise, which is why i kept them). i can't recall most of what i've lost, so i guess that's fine because you can't miss what you don't remember ever having, but i do remember a few videos of my sister and i in our hotel room in shanghai, the very first night we arrived in china, doing backwards somersaults and camera whoring and being stupid in our underwear. there was also a really long video from my grandma's 85th birthday celebration at a vip room in some nice restaurant with my entire extended family on my mother's side, with my cousins being rowdy and the babies running around in the back and my uncles making everyone do traditional chinese bows and my grandma laughing so hard she just kept doling out red envelopes until my aunt made her stop before she ran out before we were even halfway through everyone who was supposed to get one.
it's probably just the effect of being away from family for too long, but i really wish i still had those with me.
