meat tea and other grotesque must-haves
Friday, April 2, 2010 @ 3:55:00 AM
today i discovered liz wolfe: a photographer who loves color, flowers, and pairing slightly macabre/grotesque/otherwise bizarre things with sugar, spice, and everything nice. the above picture is a bloody tampon made out of rhinestone gems. how sweet! (right!?) some of my favorites from her include meat tea (a prim white teacup with amber liquid interspersed with coils of raw meat chunks and dainty white flowers), shoes on ham tiles (sparkly red and pink pointy-toed heels on squares of processed ham "tiles"), and fish dress (a plastic doll wearing a dress made entirely out of canned sardines). every shot is bright and vivid and kind of terrifying, but captivating at the same time. thank you, liz, for making my night a little more eccentric. i'm going to be the person who buys her blue lollypop bleeding (a person in a communist china t-shirt holding a blue lolli that is splashed with red) and hangs it as a centerpiece in her living room, and nobody will ever want to come visit me, ever.
wolfe's work reminds me a little of a really bizarre nightmare i had early this morning. i was in a car with daren, alex, and claire - some sort of barbie convertible - and we were speeding down one of those nightmare forests, really overgrown and filled with bats with that one lone winding road - the kind you only see in horror movies, or supernatural - and it was midnight. all of us had some sort of weird illusionary spell cast on us, where we saw jagged cliffs where there was actually solid road beneath us, and scary mirages that weren't actually there, so whoever was driving (alex maybe) was flooring the gas, and all of us were screaming. after we went across a bridge, there was an explosion, and all of us passed out. when i "woke up", i was in a pink prom dress made of tulle, my makeup was running down my face, my hair was teased, and i was quite alone in the car in the haunted forest at night. (hmm, this is already sounding like a really bad agatha christie novel.) anyways, there were random bursts of color, like a crystal prism was shining on me or maybe some invisible disco light was invading my dream, but i started screaming for everyone, calling their names, and i finally found daren a little ways away, also by herself. after we cried in each other's arms for a melodramatic minute, we heard really, really creepy whistling floating back to us from the foggy (yea, foggy, agatha christie where are you) distance, and started to shake and freak out. just when i was to the point of peeing my pants (or, tulle dress), a horse with claire and alex on it clopped into view, and claire was the one whistling.
i have no idea what the dream means, nor am i interested in finding out; i'm just glad i woke up. however, it was certainly one of the more interesting dreams i've had in a while, very colorful and fashionably accessorized and with no real monsters, just my friends. ...on second thought, i'm pretty sure it spawned out of me watching a little of hyori's new music video with the fuckin CLOWN right before i went to bed last night. I KNEW THAT WOULD HAPPEN, FUCK THAT FUCKING CLOWN >(
hmm, anyway. this week has been all right: extremely proud of the compliments i received from prof park for the video project i did, raped by my sexual attraction test (ironically), tore my hair out some more at our fucking slow as hell internet only to be told by the serviceman that our fucking stupid router is broken and we need a new one (and consequently am STILL DEALING WITH DIAL-UP SPEED INTERNET D:<), dissected a fetal pig and almost died in the process when our t.a. was poking around its eye to show us the third eyelid MGALSKDLKS, and appreciated stunningly beautiful 77 degree weather today in a t-shirt and jeans and best smoothie in the world in hand, first of its kind so far this year in syracuse.
i was poking around some shops too expensive for me earlier, so instead of cleaning out my funds by buying them, i'll just list them here instead so they'll stop taunting me.

anyway, it's 6 am, i have practically no homework this weekend for once, and it's easter weekend with temperatures ranging from 77 - 82 degrees. life is good. i cannot stop playing 4 am by kaskade. it feels like summer........ hope this weekend is good for everybody. get some sun, cross your fingers for me for my internships, and somebody steal andrew's raybans from him and give them to me.
(speak of the devil, he just texted me: "IF YOU'RE NOT IN BED, GO TO BED." ......how did he know!?)
good night/morning. :)
